Simon Goldman House 1891

This Queen Anne style home was built in 1891 by Simon Goldman who was one of Middletown’s premier dry goods merchants. The 15 room house was the Goldman family home for 102 years. Most of the magnificent hand-carved woodwork was done by Simon’s son, Joseph. He became deaf from scarlet fever at age three and was trained as a painter and woodcarver at a New York school for the deaf. The parlor has a beautiful bird’s-eye maple fireplace, bookcase and woodwork. The front hall features post and ball oak spandrels and wainscoting along with hand-carved columns and trim. Please notice the hand-carved corner blocks throughout the home as they are all different.
